Wii System by Nintendo – Acceptable Exercise?

Wii Systems

The Wii definitely has people talking and apparently, exercising! Wii was originally released in 2006 and by Christmas 2007 had people scattering, scrounging and waiting outside various stores at 5 am in ice storms for one of the precious long awaited shipment! Wii seems to address both issues. Playing the Wii makes an impact on the user’s heart rate, energy expenditure and amount of calories burned. Independent studies are producing positive results that regular Wii gaming can decrease body fat, lower resting heart rate, lower BMI, and result in weight loss. In his study boxing produced the most drastic results.

Elder care facility members have also been reaping the benefits of this system. Wii has managed to engage nursing home residents mentally as well as physically. An additional benefit to Wii gaming for seniors is that they can participate in gaming with their children and grandchildren. The physical benefits of Wii gaming for children is a disputed point. Wii provides more exercise than traditional gaming of course but should not encompass a child’s complete exercise regimen. While playing Wii for 60 minutes a day would be more beneficial than watching television or playing a traditional video or computer game it should not substitute traditional play all together.

Outdoor play including participating in team sports has many benefits aside from physical activity. Social interaction, exposure to outdoor elements, exposure to new situations and environments are benefits gained from traditional play. These benefits foster imagination, creativity and a child’s sense of individuality. Furthermore, according to a study at John Moore University in Liverpool, England, playing Wii games such as Wii Bowling and Wii Sports, burns approximately 60 calories per hour. This is dramatically less calories burned than walking, running and participating in a sport.

Seniors and adults on average receive far less exercise performing their daily activities than a child. Wii gaming will have a more drastic positive effect on a person the more sedentary their lifestyle. In response to the hype about the physical benefits of Wii gaming, Wii is now marketing a product titled Wii Fit. Wii Fit is a pressure-sensitive balance board. The board is used for an array of dynamic activities including aerobics, yoga, muscle stretches and games. In summary, Wii gaming is being heralded for its physical benefits. These benefits are most notably being reaped by seniors who are participating in Wii gaming. When it comes to children however, Wii gaming should be considered part of a child’s active play and in no way substitute a child’s traditional outdoor play and participation in team sports.

Nintendo Wii History – Getting To Know Your Nintendo Wii System

Having made its debut in November 2006, the Wii has enjoyed great success ever since. Known far and wide for its wireless controls, the Wii has been able to create devotees out of those who have never showed a prior interest in video games.

Having made its debut in November 2006, the Wii has enjoyed great success ever since.

The main features of the Nintendo Wii are its wireless controllers referred to as Wii Remotes and a lightweight 6×8 console in a vertical stand. One of the top features of this console is the ability to play not only Wii games but other Nintendo console games. This can include all GameCube games and even games downloaded off the internet.

The Wii is most widely known for providing players with active play experience. Wii Remotes and their infrared sensors detect position and movement, allowing players to swing, jab, toss, bowl, shoot, drive, cast and much more. The active play experience not only gives games a realistic feel, it, unlike other game consoles, gets the player up and moving. A vast number of parents and teachers that were previously uneasy with video games have managed to make peace with the idea of active play. Many are still wary about the number of hours spent playing video games but are much more comfortable with what time is spent on the Wii.

The Wii is not only found in homes but in occupational and behavioral therapy settings, hospitals and even retirement homes. The number of games, lack of wires and user friendly set up makes it easy to use for those who are younger or older, with or without video game skills. Whereas other activities can seem repetitive and monotonous, some therapists have found that certain games can be of great help for patients needing large or small motor therapy.

Nintendo Wii Systems

Nintendo’s Wii system, launched with a flurry of worldwide marketing in autumn 2006, has revolutionized the world of gaming. The Wii system takes video games and gaming to new levels of activity which have benefited all levels of society, from schoolchildren to the elderly.

1. Wii turns couch potatoes into fitness buffs. All right, the game probably isn’t magic enough to turn seriously sedentary players into “fitness buffs. ” This active nature of WiiNintendo Wii Systems has led to interest across the generational board. Adults without kids who might never look at a video game system, thinking it too much “kids stuff,” are sitting up — standing up! — and taking notice of Wii. Those who rarely or never play video games are taking an interest in Wii because it is active, and the activity is “cloaked” with a high level of fun.

2. Wii brings active, fun learning into many classrooms. With the advent of Wii, schools are discovering physical fitness, as well as hand-eye coordination, is becoming fun for a generation of students using Wii. They’ve turned the kids’ love of games into activities far more appealing than dodge ball and rope climbing through Wii. But using Wii in the classroom goes beyond physical fitness. An award-winning middle school teacher in New Jersey purchased his own Wii system to help his students understand the science of physics.

3. Wii keeps elderly people active and is being used for research with diseases of aging. From senior centers to nursing homes, elderly people are getting up from their recliners and moving to the fun of Wii games. Researchers into such diseases as Parkinson’s have reported Wii helping some patients improving their muscle control, coordination, and remaining active by regularly playing some of the Wii fitness games.

Nintendo’s revolutionary Wii system is changing the video gaming market in at least these three ways — adding a high level of player activity, helping kids learn and get fit, and helping the elderly maintain and improve their fitness levels. If you’re looking for a video game system for your family, take a good look at Nintendo’s Wii system.

Nintendo Wii – Home Entertainment System And Game System

Executive summary about Wii Systems by Matt Ide

There are some truly amazing games out there for the Wii, yet there is more to this game system then meets the eye. In this article you will learn that there is much more that you can do with your Nintendo Wii then just play video games…not that there is anything wrong with just playing video games. Right?

You’ve played the games and anticipating what will be coming out next for the Nintendo Wii. You have mastered the Wii’s controls and are now flopping all around the room with your remote controls. The versatility of the Nintendo Wii is truly a remarkable thing. You can watch your favorite television programs with the Wii. You can download movies, new games, and much more. You can even download music to your Weii and play it there.

The Wii is compatible with certain types of software that will allow you to download video games without having to go to the store and buy them! If there ever was a game system that had it all, the Nintendo Wii is it.
